DISADVANTAGES OF FASHION

Among girls and young women, ridiculing each other's outfits and appearances can be a form of bullying. The appearances of the homeless can keep people from offering them jobs. Fashion models tend to be skinny to the extent that it is extremely unhealthy. People may feel uncomfortable physically becayse of peer pressure not to wear a "dorky" coat or to wear uncomortable shoes. Fashion can consume money and resources that could be put to uses that help society more. Older children can feel pressured to grow up too fast. 10-year-old girls may want to shave their legs or wear bras. People may support stores that use sweatshop labor because their priority is finding clothes that are "cute &cheap" or they think that the clothes from fair-trade stores are "hippie clothes." This is not true. Thegreenloop.com and fairiesdance.com ave some really cute clothes that are coop-america (and fashionista) approved. Macy's and H&M have pretty good (although not perfect) track records as to how they treat workers.

JEWELLARY FASHION

Jewellery (spelled jewelry in American English) consists of ornamental devices worn by persons, typically made with gems and precious metals. Costume jewellery is made from less valuable materials. However, jewellery can and has been made out of almost every kind of material.Examples include bracelets, necklaces, rings, and earrings, as well as items like hair ornaments or body piercing jewellery.Jewellery, particularly when made with precious materials, is generally considered valuable and desirable. Some cultures have a practice of keeping large amounts of wealth stored in the form of jewellery. Jewellery can also be symbolic, as in the case of Christians wearing a crucifix in the form of jewellery, or, as is the case in many Western cultures, married people wearing a wedding ring.Jewellery in various forms has been made and worn by both sexes in almost every (if not every) human culture, on every inhabited continent. Personal adornment seems to be a basic human tendency. Its also fashion as we were clothes.

FASHION MAGAZINE

The printed collection of texts (essays, articles, stories, poems), often illustrated, that is produced at regular intervals. Modern magazines have roots in early printed
pamphlets, broadsides, chapbooks, and almanacs. One of the first magazines was the
German Erbauliche Monaths-Unterredungen issued from 1663 to 1668. In the early
18th centuary brought out the influential periodicals ; other critical reviews began in
the mid 1700s. By the 19th century, magazines catering to specialized audiences had
developed, including the women's weekly, the religious and missionary review, and the illustrated magazine. One of the greatest benefits to magazine publishing in the late 19th
and early 20th centuries was the addition of advertisements as a means of financial support. Subsequent developments included more illustrations and vastly greater specialization.
With the computer age, magazines (“e-zines).

CULTURAL FASHION IN 20th CENTURY IN LONDON

London's role as the nation's capital of fashion was already centuries-old when the 20th century began. Fashionable dress, music and à la mode behaviour traditionally took their cue from London's royal court and its aristocratic salons. During the 20th century London's position as the place where fashions were set remained the same but the pacemakers changed. Fashions were now led by the young. From the bright young things of the 1920s dancing the Charleston to hot jazz; through to the punks of the 1970s pogo-ing to The Damned, the young assumed a new cultural importance in 20th century London. The young began to assume a new confidence and cultural authority, so fashion in dress reflected the change. The 20th century saw London fashion become more closely entangled with the young than ever before, a change embodied by three of London's most creative fashion designers of the 20th century.

THE HIP HOP FASHION CULTURE

The hip hop culture have permeated ppular culture has never been known before fashion, because of its enormous crossover appeal. The hip hop culture is a potentially great unifier of diverse populations.Although created by black youth on the street,hip-hop's influence has become worldwide.Aproximatelly 75% of the rap and hip-hop audience is nonblack. It has gone from the ghetto(),to the suburbs and into the corporate boardrooms.
The worldwide appeal hip-hop and the potential of the culture to mend ethic cleavages in
their/ our society. In the 1950s and 1960s the ''Beat Culture'' challenged the status quo in
the ways that unified liberal and prompted change. In the same vein, the hip-hop culture has challenged the system in the ways that unified individuals(particularly youth ) across a rich ethnic spectrum.

FASHION AND SEMIOTICS(the study of signs and symbols of their meaning and uses)

Many many centuries ago, clothes have been used as a way of communicating. The message communicated relies on a numbers of factors including the social background of both the communicator and the reciver and the context in which the message is communicated. For many centuries clothing was used namely as a form of symbolising one's ascribed class and social honour. A good example of this evident in Feudal European times when sumptuary laws were created in order to regulate and specify the clothing that could be worn by certain classes. It is evident that clothing has long been embraced as one of the best ways to project one's desired personal image to those around them.the tools of fashion provide the sign and symbolism that function as an information services for the particular lifestyle.
